Privacy Policy

Beacon ("the app") is a macOS application made by Albini Labs ("we", "us"). It listens to your meetings, catches questions asked of you, and suggests answers found in your own files and the web. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what we never do with it. We designed the app to keep your meeting content on your own Mac.

Information we access

• Google account identity — when you choose "Continue with Google", we receive your email address and basic profile (name, picture) to create and sign you into your Beacon account.
• Google Calendar (read-only) — if you connect your calendar, the app reads your upcoming events (title, time, attendee names, and meeting link) using the calendar.readonly scope, solely to show your day inside the app and let you join or start listening to a meeting. We never create, edit, or delete calendar events.
• Meeting audio — while a meeting is running, the app captures microphone and meeting audio to produce a live, speaker-labeled transcript.
• A code folder you choose — if you point Beacon at a project folder, the app builds a search index of those files locally on your Mac so answers can cite your own code. Nothing is uploaded when the index is built.

How we use it

• Your Google identity signs you into your account.
• Your calendar events are shown as meetings inside the app so you don't have to re-enter them.
• The live transcript is used, in the moment, to detect questions directed at you. When one is detected, the app searches your local index and the web, and drafts a short suggested answer grounded in the passages it found.
• When a meeting ends, the transcript is used once more to write your meeting notes: a summary, action items, and the questions Beacon answered.

Where your data lives

• On your Mac. Your meetings, imported calendar events, transcripts, meeting notes, and the search index of your code are stored locally on your device.
• Account identity. Your email and a login session are stored in our cloud backend (Cloudflare) so you can sign in. That's the only personal data we hold on a server.

Service providers

To provide the app's features, limited data is processed by:

• Google — sign-in and read-only calendar access, as described above.
• Deepgram — meeting audio is sent to Deepgram to produce a transcript.
• Anthropic — short transcript excerpts, and the few indexed passages relevant to a detected question, are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to detect questions, draft suggested answers, and write your meeting notes.
• Brave Search — when a question needs the web, its search query (never your transcript) is sent to Brave Search through our backend to retrieve public results.
• Cloudflare — hosts our backend and stores your account identity.

These providers process data only to deliver these features, under their own terms.

What we never do

• We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
• We do not transfer Google user data except as needed to provide the features above, to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or acquisition, and only with your consent where required.
• We do not let humans read your Google user data, except where you explicitly permit it, for security purposes, to comply with the law, or on data that has been aggregated and anonymized.

Keeping and deleting your data

Meeting data on your Mac is yours to delete at any time — remove a meeting in the app, or remove the code index by clearing the folder in Settings. To delete your account and the identity we store, or to ask any privacy question, email nhanttse92@gmail.com and we'll remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above.
